Locomotive seized for “murdering” elephant in Assam

while passing through the Lumding reserve forest…..
Assam environment
and forest minister , Parimal Suklabaidya said, “The department shall not fail to
take a tough stand against the railways. The killing of elephants on track must
stop forthwith.”
The
incident took place on 27th september and It is also stated that “the
goods train engine had been vigorously
pressured under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 against the railway
authorities.” Earlier the locopilot and his assistant were suspended by the railway authorities after internal
enquiry.
Therfore,
a forest offence has been listed against the railway officers and employee of
the railway authority under Lumding division
of NF Railway for the killing of the two wild elephants, which is an offence under section 9
of the said Act and punishable under section 51 of the act, for onward
necessary action.
